On Saturday 13th August 2022, Raising Explorers and Alpha United Juniors FC – in partnership with the Bradford Community Kitchen – hosted a Food Drive to aid the struggling families and individuals within our very own community during this intense heatwave and the constant rising of the costs of living. The Bradford Community is in need of immediate support. Almost a third of children in Bradford are living in poverty, according to a new report, with the latest figures showing that 30.4% of children in the city live in a household where at least one benefit is claimed. Bradford District ranks 13th most deprived in local authority and 2nd most deprived in the Yorkshire region.

The Food Drive aimed to provide a variety of items such as food, household items, baby supplies, toiletries and much more to the people who needed it the most. Families from Raising Explorers and Alpha United Juniors FC as well as the general public were encouraged to donate on the day and we are proud to announce that the charity event was a success! Hundreds of pounds worth of food was donated and is now being distributed by the Bradford Community Kitchen.

The Bradford Community Kitchen – founded by Abdul Satar, Lesley Semmens and Anne-Marie Mitchell – have, for the past 5 years, supported the community with hot meals, clothing, sanitary products, toiletries and essential items. They serve hundreds of freshly cooked hot meals every other Sunday from their site at the Millside Centre, Grattan Street.

Due to your kindness, many families will feel ease and comfort in the coming weeks and for that Raising Explorers and Alpha United Juniors FC would like to give a sincere thank you.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), said: “Allah, the Exalted, says, ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim). May you see the fruits of your generosity in this world and the Hereafter, Ameen.
