Our children have helped to put smiles on people’s faces ahead of Eid this year.
The children here at Raising Explorers After-School Club designed Ramadan and Eid cards for vulnerable people and adults with learning disabilities, as part of a feel-good initiative backed by Bradford Council.
The Council approached our centre – which provides childcare, tuition and activities for children and young people aged 5 to 15 – ahead of Ramadan to see if the children wanted to add to their strong track record of supporting those in need. Previously we have donated clothes and essential items to refugees and asylum seekers, and given gifts to poorly children in hospitals across the country.
“We wanted to get the children involved and wish everyone a happy Eid,” said Raising Explorers co-founder and director, Aweis Asghar. “The cards were really bright and detailed, and the children enjoyed creating them.”
“Not everyone knows what Ramadan or Eid is, and initiatives like this help to break down barriers.”
“Hopefully, it will also make people realise how supportive the Muslim community is – we always give back and help others, regardless of their race or religion, and this is something we need to shout about.”
